Lovin’ the fall!

Fall is my favorite time of year…leaves change, the air gets brisk…the students come back, and Mosaic takes on new life.  We call it “the new year.”  The fall is way bigger than January each year!

We’ve kicked off this September with a series called “Shocked out of the Beauty Race”.  It’s taken from the life of Esther, who won a beauty race and became the most powerful woman in her nation, virtually overnight.  Suddenly she was surrounded with a lot of cool benefits: servants, gourmet cuisine, the best entertainment, and FAME!  Woo-hoo!  Who wouldn’t want that life?

There was one little problem.  There was a bad guy in the story.  There always is.  And he wanted to commit genocide.  So the beauty-queen-with-all-the-benefits had to decide if she’d get involved or just save her own skin.

The story still amazes me–how much it reminds me of living in America today.  You’re the beauty queen, but you may not know it.  You’re so used to all the benefits that you don’t realize how much you could do to make a difference in someone else’s life, here or around the world.

We’ve formed Mosaic around many of the life principles in this story.  They’re inspiring, but they also hurt.  Trying to follow Christ today will cost you something; maybe a big something.  Like Esther, you may find there is no other path to satisfaction in life.

In it together,

Don Riling  (lead pastor-Mosaic)
